ISTHME Quintet

Isthme est un quintet qui trace sa propre voie autour d’un son contemporain. Privilégiant l’identité collective, Isthme met la musique au service d’un propos, où l’expérimentation et la construction mélodique occupent une place importante. Ainsi, à travers son premier opus Mirages distribué chez Inouïe Distribution/Kymatic Isthme propose des compositions explorant les styles comme des outils de narration et évoluent autour d’une esthétique où se côtoient le jazz, la folk, le minimalisme et le rock, mais aussi les modes et les rythmes traditionnels d’orient. L’écriture, l’improvisation et les plages ambiantes s’y croisent librement autour de thèmes bâtis une trame apportant une dimension cinématographique à l’écoute.

Isthme is a quintet that carves its own way around contemporary sound. Favoring collective identity, Isthme puts music at the service of a subject, where experimentation and melodic construction occupy an important place. Thus, through his first opus Mirages distributed by Inouïe Distribution / Kymatic Isthme offers compositions exploring styles as narration tools and evolving around an aesthetic where jazz, folk, minimalism and rock rub shoulders, but also traditional oriental fashions and rhythms. Writing, improvisation and ambient tracks freely intersect around themes that build a frame bringing a cinematographic dimension to listening.Founded in 2017, Isthme is a band which reunites 5 young musicians from parisian Jazz scene. At the crossroad between jazz, rock and oriental music, Isthme is more than about music, it is about a state of mind.
