Pour cet album, Baptiste Herbin a, pour la première fois, fait appel à un directeur artistique .Il a trouvé en Daniel Yvinec un interlocuteur éclairé et stimulant, qui après l ‘avoir entendu jouer un thème de Django lors d’une jam session, lui a soufflé le sujet de cet album.
Ensemble, ils façonnent alors un répertoire qui dessine autour du guitariste un univers fascinant ; quelques -unes de ses compositions emblématiques habilement repensées, d’enivrantes valses musettes, auxquelles s’ajoutent un choro que lui dédie Herbin , le bouleversant hommage du pianiste John Lewis, et une relecture stupéfiante de “Night and Day” dans laquelle Baptiste reprend le solo original de Django harmonisé pour deux saxophones avec une élégance et un naturel qui confirment le bien fondé de l ‘entreprise.
For this album, Baptiste Herbin enlisted the services of an artistic director for the first time. In Daniel Yvinec, he found an insightful and inspiring collaborator who, after hearing him play a Django theme during a jam session, suggested the theme for this album.
Together, they crafted a repertoire that weaves a fascinating world around the guitarist; it features some of his iconic compositions skilfully reimagined, along with intoxicating musette waltzes, complemented by a choro dedicated to him by Herbin, a deeply moving tribute from pianist John Lewis, and a stunning reinterpretation of “Night and Day” in which Baptiste takes up Django’s original solo, arranged for two saxophones, with an elegance and naturalness that confirm the validity of the project.
