Août 2001, aéroport de Madrid. Une camionnette blanche attend sur le parking, sous un soleil de plomb. Un guitariste anglais cuit à l’intérieur. Un harmoniciste polonais le rejoint. Ils font brièvement connaissance. Direction le festival de musique. Chacun ignore avec qui il partagera la scène ce soir. À leur arrivée sur site, une affiche : « Ce soir GREG ZLAP et IAN SIEGAL pour un duo inédit! ». Pour une fois, la pub n’est pas mensongère. Il va falloir improviser, mais ça ils savent faire. Succès.
Février 2025, mêmes protagonistes. Entre temps, l’anglais a été consacré meilleur chanteur-guitariste par le British Blues Awards Hall of Fame. Le polonais a fait 282 concerts avec la star française Johnny Hallyday, soulevant chaque fois les foules avec son harmonica. GREG ZLAP et IAN SIEGAL ont en commun une énergie débordante, cette faculté de s’approprier n’importe quelle scène et d’embarquer le public avec eux. Désormais amis de longue date (merci Madrid), ils se retrouvent en duo pour une soirée d’improvisations autour des grands thèmes blues et rock qui les unissent.
August 2001, Madrid airport. A white van is waiting in the parking lot, under a blazing sun. An English guitarist cooks inside. A Polish harmonica player joins him. They get to know each other briefly. Off to the music festival. No one knows who they’ll be sharing the stage with tonight. When they arrive on site, a sign reads: “Tonight GREG ZLAP and IAN SIEGAL for an unprecedented duo! For once, the ad isn’t misleading. They’ll have to improvise, but that’s what they know how to do. Success.
February 2025, same protagonists. In the meantime, the Englishman has been named best singer-guitarist by the British Blues Awards Hall of Fame. The Pole played 282 concerts with French star Johnny Hallyday, each time bringing the crowds to their feet with his harmonica. What GREG ZLAP and IAN SIEGAL have in common is their boundless energy, their ability to make any stage their own and take the audience with them. Now long-time friends (thanks Madrid), they join forces as a duo for an evening of improvisations around the great blues and rock themes that unite them.
