Le Romain Vuillemin Quartet, un vibrant hommage à Django Reinhardt
Depuis 2011, le Romain Vuillemin Quartet a fait vibrer les clubs et fait revivre le riche patrimoine artistique de Django Reinhardt et du célèbre Quintette du Hot Club de France sur les routes de France et d’Europe. Ils ont sorti 3 albums autour du swing « à la française » salués par la presse pour leur musicalité et par la façon dont fougue et sensibilité se donnent la réplique. Voila donc un quartet de jeunes musiciens talentueux toujours prêts à dépoussiérer les airs du Paris avant-guerre afin de les restituer sous une forme plus actuelle, tout en respectant la tradition.
Romain Vuillemin Quartet plays Django
Over the last fifteen years, Romain Vuillemin has built-up a strong name in the world of the 1930s swing guitar, working with highly sough-after bands like the Umlaut Big Band or the Collectif Paris Swing, as well as leading his own Django Reinhardt tribute band « Romain Vuillemin Quartet ». He also worked as a sideman, comping for the greatest names in the contemporanean gypsy jazz scene such as Angelo Debarre, Adrien Moignard, Stochelo Rosenberg etc. He could be heard either as soloist or as a sideman in more than 20 countries (including USA, Brazil, Sweden, Spain, Germany, Canada…) and recorded over 10 albums.
For his manouche quartet, he teams up with the great Guillaume Singer on violin, whose remarquable improvisations find echoes in the style of Stephane Grappelli or even Titi Winterstein. Both him and Romain tries to focus more on the swing and the musicality rather than the virtuosity at all cost. They are backed up by a strong rhythm section composed by Edouard Pennes on the doubleness (member of the RP Quartet, he has been studying the genre extensively over the past 20 years, on guitar then on doublebass) and Adrien Tarraga on rhythm guitar (Adrien being also a soloist and one of the finest gypsy jazz expert, especially when it comes to the late 40s Django style). Just close your eyes and let the band take you to an endless night of swing fiesta and syncopated rhythms.
