Le trio de Yonathan Avishai revient au Sunside pour 2 soirées exceptionnelles autour l’inépuisable « Great American Song book », répertoire des chansons populaires de années 20, 30 et 40.
Yonathan ne se contente pas seulement de reprendre ces « Standards », mais il rend hommage à l’art même de la reprise tel qu’elle a évolué dans le Jazz et dans les musiques afro-américaines.
Avec les très demandés Yoni Zelnik (contrebasse) et Donald Kontomanou (batterie), Yonathan Avishai cultive son propre « Art du trio », proposant un style original qui réactive les éléments principaux du jazz : le swing, le blues, l’improvisation, de manière très personnelle et subtile.
Partenaire privilégié de musiciens tels que le trompettiste Avishai Cohen, le pianiste Yonathan Avishai est l’un des musiciens les plus singuliers et les plus touchants du jazz actuel.

Après plusieurs albums parus chez ECM Records en trio et aux côtés d’Avishai Cohen, Yonathan présente aujourd’hui “Shapes and Sounds” un nouvel opus de son trio parisien paru sur le label Jazz&People. Depuis sa sortie en octobre, l’album reçoit un accueil extrêmement chaleureux de la presse française et internationale (TTT Télérama ,Choc sur Jazz Magazine).
Héritée de Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk et Ahmad Jamal, son épure de moyens, sensible et troublante, donne lieu à un répertoire qui va de purs et doux moments de bonheur à l’expression de tensions plus douloureuses, en passant par des standards revisités et autres chansons avec fantaisie et fraîcheur.

Yonathan Avishai’s trio returns to the Sunside for two exceptional evenings celebrating the inexhaustible ‘Great American Songbook’, a collection of popular songs from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.
Yonathan does not merely cover these ‘standards’; he pays homage to the very art of the cover version as it has evolved in jazz and African-American music.
Alongside the much-sought-after Yoni Zelnik (double bass) and Donald Kontomanou (drums), Yonathan Avishai cultivates his own “art of the trio”, offering an original style that revives the key elements of jazz—swing, blues and improvisation—in a highly personal and subtle manner.
